I've used cloth, vinyl and paper and by far the most satisfactory is the paper hinge tape. In my school libraries (ECE - Senior Secondary) we have used hinge tape for both hardcover and softcover book repairs. It is a wonderful product. I'm about to go overseas to an international school and I will take a good supply with me!
